This site is dedicated to Dublin Zoo's cute little Red Pandas.
Bamboo, the mother of Sandy & Mandy, was born in June 1996. She has a distinctive white face.
Her twin daughters, Mandy & Sandy, were born in July 2004. Sandy is slighter smaller than her sister.
Red Pandas have characteristics of both racoons & bears.
They are found in Asia around the Himalayas & live on plants and bamboo.
The word Panda is derived from a Nepalese word, Ponya, meaning Bamboo & plant eating animal.
In Latin, they are known as Ailurus Fulgens.
Red Pandas are endangered. As few as 2,500 remain in the wild.
Sandy & Mandy have recently left Dublin Zoo & moved to Newquay & Paignton Zoos in England.
An 8 year old male has arrived from Newquay Zoo and he is called Beijing.
